Thanks so much for all your great comments and suggestions on yesterday’s post. I promise to keep everyone updated on the status of my one other true love: that fabulous desk!
Of course, what is any desk without an adorable lamp to adorn it? Here is a quick tutorial about jazzing up an everyday lamp that anyone can do regardless of skill level.
I found a really cute clear lamp base at Goodwill for $10.00. I’ve seen this type of lamp base all over. This particular base still had the Target tag attached to it, so I knew it was brand spankin’ new. Of course, I found it a good home. Then, I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a regular white lampshade for around $15.00. I continued errand shopping to get some wire ribbon at the fabric store as well. I already had pink spray paint on hand. (I say that as if there would be an occasion where I wouldn’t have pink spray paint in the house!)
The first thing I did was spray paint the white lamp shade pink. You might want to tape the inside of the lamp at the top and bottom to make sure not to paint the inside on accident. Then, in just one afternoon I hand sewed the zebra ribbon on the top of the lamp. I am not a sewer by any stretch of the imagination, but even I could do a few simple stitches to secure that baby where it belonged! The benefit of using a wire ribbon is that I could get a nice crinkle effect. You could also lay it smoothly if you had a barrel shade.
Here is my lamp living on the coffee table, with an accent zebra pillow nearby to tie it all together.
And here it is switched out with a different lamp base also bought at Goodwill, just to show how versatile it is!
Which base do you guys like better? Wasn’t this process surprisingly simple? Has anyone else jazzed up some lamps in recent history? Spill the beans.
